Navigating the Entry-Level Paradox: The Challenge of Job Hunting for Recent Graduates

Almost every morning since completing my college education, my routine involves waking up, playing Wordle, spending time with my dogs, preparing coffee, and then networking and searching for job opportunities to pursue. However, during my job search, I’ve encountered a notable challenge. Many of the jobs listed as entry-level positions demand 3-5 years of experience. While I grasp the rationale behind companies preferring candidates with experience, I find myself pondering why these roles are categorized as entry-level when they actually require individuals closer to an Associate-level proficiency.

In what way can recent college graduates enter their desired job industries if companies exclusively pursue candidates with experience? I have intern experience, but due to COVID, my internships were limited in scope and scale.   Despite this, I still apply for jobs that ask for a few years of prior experience, hoping that my application might be considered despite my limited professional background.

I do wish that the LinkedIn job search filters for Entry Level truly meant Entry Level experience.  It would make the job searching process more seamless. I see so many amazing job opportunities that interest me, but I feel discouraged that my lack of experience is sending my resume straight to the rejection pile.

I would love to hear from you!
