The Book: Tales from Mr.Blair’s Shop

Caught in the rain and seeking shelter, I spotted an open store and stepped inside. Deciding to explore, I picked up a book called “Spells Through the Ages.” As I flipped through the pages, one spell grabbed my attention—it was labeled “No more rain,” with instructions to halt the rainfall. Curious, I recited the spell near the window. To my surprise, moments later, the rain ceased. I chuckled, dismissing it as a mere coincidence.

“Hello there, the book you’ve got in your hands is quite powerful. I’m willing to sell it to you for $23,” said a man, around the age of 40, as I turned to face him.

“Oh, is that so, or are you just trying to sell me the book and squeeze out more money?”

“No no, it’s a really good book I promise,” the man says.

I nodded went into my pocket and handed the man $23. He smiles and says, “Oh by the way my name is Mr. Blair.”

With a smile, I say, “Mine’s Ciera,” and then I exit the store, making my way back home.

As I walk into my house my parents bombard me with questions like “How was your day” and other questions parents just love to ask their kids every day.

After answering all the questions, I dash up to my room and decide to peruse the book further, exploring its array of spells. Turning to a page that reads “Free somebody in place,” I smile and resolve to give it a try the next day. During school the following day, while enduring an uninteresting history class with the annoying Miss Grew, I discreetly uttered the spell from the book. Moments later, she froze in place, leaving the other students bewildered. One student sought help from another teacher, who tapped Miss Grew on the shoulder, breaking the spell, and she resumed moving.

“What happened ?” She asked, confused. “You froze in place” the other teacher responded. She looked at him confused but went on with her lesson.

After school, I visited my friend in the hospital following her recent car crash. Entering her room, I found her lying on the hospital bed, having broken both her legs and a few other bones. While awaiting her awakening, I perused the book and stumbled upon a healing spell designed to heal anyone. Excited, I positioned myself next to her bed and recited the spell aloud. However, after a few moments, nothing seemed to happen.

Thinking to myself, “I guess I did something wrong,” I contemplated leaving. Just as I was about to exit, a group of doctors entered, awakening my friend. Seizing the moment, I approached a doctor.

“Hey, doctor, my legs feel better. I think I can move them without pain,” I asserted.

The doctor smiled and gently pressed on her leg, asking, “Does that hurt?”

“No, not at all,” my friend responded.

I grinned, moved to her side, and said, “I’m glad you’re better.” She smiled back at me and then curiously asked, “Thanks, but who are you?”

Looking at her in disbelief, I ask, “You’re kidding, right?” Tears welling up in my eyes, she shakes her head and says, “Sorry, I don’t know who you are.” Overwhelmed, I run out of the room in tears, screaming, “How could she forget me?” Leaving the hospital, I walk home still upset over my friend’s memory loss.

On my way home, an unsettling sensation creeps through my legs and arms. Moments later, I find myself on the ground, unable to move either my legs or arms. I can’t even scream; all I can do is wait. As the pain and shock overwhelm me, my eyes shut, and I pass out. When I open my eyes again, Mr. Blair is standing over me.

He gives me a devious smile and utters, “Oh, and one more thing, I need to tell you—thanks for doing business with the devil.” With that unsettling statement, he walks out of the room, and it turns out to be the last time I see him. My eyes gradually close again until all I can perceive is darkness.

I would love to hear from you!
