The Wolf and The Pigs

In the woods, I am waiting for my next meal to feed my family. As I wait I see three little pigs talking to each other.
“Well it’s been nice brothers good luck on your journey”

“See you around Thatch,” said one of the pigs

The other two pigs wander off together as Thatch goes down a path to a town. I decided to follow Thatch to see where he would go. As he goes down the path to town I see him buy bundles of straw. What could those be for? Thatch would keep walking as I kept my distance not to be noticed. Soon he comes to an empty plot of land and starts building something out of the straw. A house? I may be no architect, but why would you build a house out of straw? It’s like he wants to be eaten. The other two pigs wander off together as Thatch goes down a path to a town. I may be no architect, but why would you build a house out of straw? It’s like he wants to be eaten. My mouth was just watering at the thought of a nice meal.

“Wow that was easy,” Thatch says

As the sun begins to set the pig finishes up the house. I stretch my legs and make my way to the house.

“Oh little pig let me in”

“No not by the hairs of my chinny chin chin”

“Well then I guess I’m going to huff and puff and I’ll blow your house down”

I take a deep breath and then blow the house down easily only to find Thatch had already vanished. Realizing it was getting late, I decided it was time to return home to my family.family.

Upon getting home my three kids come running to me.

“Daddy,” they all say

“Hello little ones”

“Were you able to get food for us?” one of them ask

“I’m sorry, Pernella. I tried my best—I was so close to catching a pig, but they slipped away. I know you’re hungry; times have been tough lately. But I promise, I’ll keep trying to secure food for us. For now, we’ll have to make do with some fruits.”

“Were almost out though”

“How much did you eat Drace?”

“Only five berries”

“Really now you sure you didn’t eat more?”

“Ok… I ate twenty”

“I told you that we need to ration berries as they will be out of season soon and will be harder to find”

“I’m sorry I was just really hungry”

“Don’t worry I will get the pig and If I can the pig’s brothers too”

“We would have enough for us to last the winter”

“Yes, we would Orvence. Alright time for bed now”

The three of them headed to their room, and I found myself yawning, ready for bed too. I knew a good night’s rest was essential, as tomorrow would be the day I aimed to catch the pigs.

I woke up early the next morning, fueled by determination to bring home at least one pig. Venturing into the woods, I hoped to catch the scent of any nearby. Fortunately, I was able to detect the smell of two pigs. I tracked the scent to a wooden hut. Had this pig constructed a house entirely from sticks? I had to admit, that was more impressive than anything I could manage. Approaching the hut, I paused to eavesdrop on the conversation inside.

“Thank you for letting me stay with you, Grove. That wolf blew down my house for no reason” says Thatch

“He is probably hungry”

“Yeah, but there are so many other things the wolf could eat”

“I don’t think the wolf has time to be picky”

“So do you have anything to help protect us from the wolf if they are to come here?”

“No, but there is no need to worry this house is sturdy enough and can survive the wolf trying to blow it down.”

Well, that must be my cue. Making my way to the door and knocking.

“Oh little pigs let me in”

“Not by the hairs of our chinny chin chins,” they both say

“Then I’ll huff and I and I’ll puff and I’ll blow your house down”

“You can try but this house is super sturdy,” says Grove

Ignoring what he says I inhaled deeply and effortlessly blew the house of sticks down, observing as the pigs hastily fled. Silently, I trailed behind to see where they would go. Eventually, they reached a remarkably sturdy-looking house made of bricks—a structure I knew I couldn’t simply blow down. Thatch and Grove knocked, and their brother welcomed them inside. It became clear I would have to look for a loose brick if I had any hope of bringing down this house.

Seeing from a window, the three pigs spotted me and pointed in my direction—a clear sign I’d been detected, which wasn’t ideal. Securing at least one pig was still a top priority. My gaze shifted to the chimney as a potential entry point. I approached the house and started climbing towards the roof. Upon reaching the top, I noticed smoke billowing from the chimney, indicating the fireplace was in use. This meant I had to rethink my strategy; entering through the chimney was out of the question unless I wanted to risk being scorched.

“You will never get us wolf,” says one of the pigs

“Yeah try to blow this house down,” says another

“Alright stop teasing him you two”

“Fine will stop, Chip”

All I need is a loose brick or even a panel in the roof would work. Searching around there was nothing loose this house was well made.

“Alright, little pigs let me in.”

“Not by the hairs of chinny chin chins,” all three of them say.

“Then I’ll hop and hop until I get inside”

I hear them laughing at me.

“We’d love to see you try”

I begin hopping on the roof creating a small crack. I keep hopping until a large enough hole is made for me to get in. The pigs squeal when I land and begin running around the house. I chase them around the house.

“You will never be able to catch us,” Thatch says

I lunge at Thatch knocking him out.

“One down two to go. Let’s not make this hard”

“You won’t get us,” says Grove holding a pan

“Yeah you may have gotten Thatch, but the two of us won’t go down easily.”

I made a swift move towards the two pigs, aiming to scratch Grove. In a panic, Grove swung the pan wildly, accidentally striking Chip in the face and knocking him unconscious. As Grove dropped the pan in shock, I managed to scratch him across the face, causing him to fall to the ground as blood flowed from the wound. With two pigs secured on my back and the third held securely in my mouth, I carried them back to my house.

“You did it, Dad!” the three of them shout with glee.

“I did. Now we must ration so the pigs will last us through the winter”

“Alright Dad,” says Drace

“Now get ready for dinner. We’re eating good tonight”

Soon enough the smell of pig fills the house.

I would love to hear from you!
